Wine of the Day: 2004 Chateau Mouton-Rothschild, Pauillac

2004 Chateau Mouton-Rothschild, Pauillac

2004 Chateau Mouton-Rothschild, Pauillac

DESCRIPTION:
from Berry Bros. & Rudd - Often criticised for being somewhat exotic and 'new world' in style, the 2004 Mouton shows pure 'old world' charm. This is possibly because a new winemaker, from Ch. Branaire, has taken over this year. The nose is rich and spicy with lovely ripe Cabernet fruit - the blend comprises 69% Cabernet Sauvignon, 13% Cabernet Franc, 15% Merlot and 3% Petit Verdot - which is a bit more subtle on the palate. Round and velvety with plenty of ripe tannins and great balance, this is more approachable than the other First Growths and is easily as good as Mouton's 2000 and 2002.

The Wine of Star Wars Part II: The Empire Kicks Back

Due to massive public outcry demanding more, we bring you another batch of time-wasting foolishness.

Gungan Army in the Fog
The Gungan Army
Sea Smoke Botella
"The enemy has this massive droid army, and we've got - what? Glowing balls and catapults? Weesa need some kind of advantage, and the morning fog is it" said Captain Tarpals. "Plus, it's pretty cool to come rolling in all 'Throne of Blood' style."

Darth Maul
Darth Maul
Gnarly Head
"Yeah, joke about the head...very original" the visibly exasperated Dathomiri Nightbrother declared. "'Is your Mom a crocodile?', 'You have a little something on your face'...yep, heard 'em all." He quickly followed up, "I will take the wine, however."

Aks Moe
Aks Moe
Holy Cow Chardonnay
"I'm not actually a cow, I'm a diplomat and Senator from the glorious planet of Malastare" the three-eyed cow was heard to say (or is it 'herd' to say?)

Luke Skywalker gets his arm cut off
Luke Skywalker
The Dead Arm Shiraz
"So right after my 'Dad' cuts off my hand, Solo brings me this bottle of wine as a gag. But it's actually pretty tasty! Han can make fun of me all he wants, but I'm really strong in that arm now" Skywalker remarked. "And I think the princess was checking me out. You know, she's pretty cute...and I think we have a lot in common!"

What else would C-3PO drink?

Wine of the Day: 2010 Aiken Oakville Cabernet Sauvignon

2010 Aiken Oakville Cabernet Sauvignon

2010 Aiken Oakville Cabernet Sauvignon

WINERY:
AIKEN WINES, St. Helena, California

DESCRIPTION:
Oakville Cabernet Sauvignon is renowned worldwide and I believe Oakville Ranch is one of the best vineyards in the appellation. The fruit in 2010 ripened perfectly and was harvested on October 19 before any rain had fallen. The wine has deep, dark color, fully ripe tannins and refreshing acidity. It displays aromas and flavors of ripe black cherries, cassis and mocha. The texture is lush with integrated tannins and a long lingering finish. Although it is drinking beautifully now, this wine will age for many years to come.

Wine of the Day: Domaine Romanée-Conti Pinot Noir

Domaine Romanée-Conti

Domaine Romanée-Conti Pinot Noir

WINERY:
DRC

DESCRIPTION:
One of the finest wines from one of the finest winemakers in the world.

The Domaine has its private supply of oak from the Troncais forests. 100% new oak is used and maturation time depends on the quality of the vintage.

There is no filtration and if racking off the lees is required this is done by gravity from cask to cask, never pumped. If the wines need to be fined, then fresh eggs are used. The wines spend sixteen to twenty months in wood before bottling. Both assemblage and bottling are done by gravity and usually cask by cask.
